The Parks and Recreation Department offers multiple adult and youth sports programs throughout the year. Whether your child wants to learn a new sport or improve their current skills, you want to form a team with your family, friends, or coworkers, or you simply want to drop in to a session on your own, there is something for you.

Geary Park

 

Location: Geary Park | 1198 Earle Boulevard, Ferndale, MI, 48220

 

Description:

Adult Drop-in Soccer is a recreational drop-in program that promotes staying active both physically and socially within the Ferndale community. Though competitive play is common, the program focuses on having fun and meeting new people in a team sport atmosphere. Games will be 11am-1pm on Sundays starting May 5th and running through June 9th. This program is free.

Adult Kickball

Start date: Monday, June 24 2024.

Schedule:

On Mondays from 6:00 PM to 11:58 PM.

Description:

Adult Kickball is back!  Ready to kick up some fun? It's your chance to unleash your inner playground champion  Games are Mondays at Martin Road Park from June to July. Schedule will be subject to change. Teams must be 10 players minimum.

 

Team Entry Fee: $250

 

Includes: 5-game season, playoff tournament
for top 4 teams, USA Registration, Kickballs, and awards

 

Umpire fee: $17 to the umpire before the start of each game

 

Forfeit Note: Teams must give 24-hour notice if they are forfeiting a game. 2 forfeits will result in being removed from the league with no portion of the registration fee refunded.

Adult Cardio Tennis

Description:

Cardio Tennis is a fun, group activity for both men and women featuring drills to give players of varying abilities an ultimate, high-energy workout to music. It includes a warm-up, cardio workout, and point playing. It’s a healthy way to get in shape and to burn calories.

Description:

We are excited to offer a water aerobics class this spring! Join us for a 1 hour class at the Ferndale High School Pool with certified instructors and a lifeguard on-site. Classes will be 10AM-11AM on Saturday Mornings. You will have access to the locker rooms to change before and after the class. Enjoy a low-impact workout in a heated pool. There will be 5 sessions total.

Description:

Our Parent-Tot class is perfect for kids 3 and under. Our class is taught be a certified instructor and we will have a lifeguard on site. Both you and your child will be in the pool. The 4 lessons cover water exploration, breath control, and safety skills.

Parent Tot lessons can be a special bonding expirience while helping establish a healthy attitude toward the water.

Youth Soccer

Learn the basic skills of soccer in a fun atmosphere through Ferndale Parks & Recreation's  Soccer league!

 

Practices will be held on local fields around Ferndale, with games being played on Saturday mornings some Sundays and selected weeknights. Weeknight games will be dependent upon the specific league and the total number of teams formed in each league. The volunteer coach of each team will determine the practice day, time, and location and will be reaching out to their players.

 

Players will need to supply cleats, socks, shin guards, shorts/pants, and a water bottle. Team jerseys will be provided by Ferndale Parks & Recreation.

U6    1/1/2018-12/31/2019

U8    1/1/2016-12/31/2017

Youth Tennis

Tennis is a lifetime sport the whole family can play! In addition to fitness, tennis teaches life skills such as discipline, sportsmanship, self-reliance, and problem-solving. Classes are held by Coach Chip Fazio, a USPTA-certified Elite Professional. Each child should have a properly fitting youth racquet and a water bottle—racquets will be available for purchase.

 

Saturdays June 15 - July 20 at Ferndale High School tennis courts.

 

4-6 years:  Pee-wee tennis, Fun, laughter, and developing athletic skills are the name of the game for this age group.  They are learning basic hand-eye coordination, agility, balance, and the rudiments of tennis technique.  We are building better athletes at this stage and using fun games to keep them engaged.  We also work on basic social skills, playing with others, taking turns, and keeping score.

 

7-10 years: Tennis strokes are beginning to be refined. We work on a greater variety of different shots, footwork, and tactics. Kids will play points in a variety of fun rally-based tennis games. They begin to learn traditional tennis scoring.

 

11-17 years:  Kids will learn tennis serving and traditional scorekeeping. There is a greater emphasis on spin, directional control, and continental grip skills. We go into more detail on doubles and singles tactics and positioning.

Youth Baseball and Softball

Description:

This is a recreation league that will focus on fun and skill development. Leagues will practice on local fields and play games in Ferndale and Hazel Park. All Ferndale participants receive a jersey and hat.

T-Ball (4-6):        July 31, 2018 – July 31, 2020

Highly skilled players are encouraged to play up an age group.

Little Eagles Basketball

Learn the basic skills of basketball in a fun atmosphere through Ferndale Parks & Recreation's Little Eagles Basketball League!

 

Coaches hold team practices during the week and have players ready for games on weekdays and Saturdays. In addition to competing against each other, Ferndale teams get the opportunity to play games against teams from Oak Park and Hazel Park, as part of the Tri-City League.

 

Practice days and times are dependent on gym and coach availability (typically weekday evenings). Weekday games are played on specific evenings at Webb Elementary and United Oaks Elementary in Hazel Park. All Saturday morning games are played at the Ferndale High School Gymnasium.

 

Players will need appropriate gym shoes, shorts/ pants, and a water bottle. Team jerseys will be provided by Ferndale Parks & Recreation.

 

Grades Offered: 

Kindergarten - 2nd Grade

3rd Grade - 4th Grade

5th Grade - 6th Grade
